Freshmen Reception – 9/17/09

I was actually looking forward to this workshop because I thought it would be a great way to way other people who new to Baruch as well. I was pretty disappointed when I showed up and had my planner sign and was told to take business 1000. On the bright side, it took care of one of my required workshops. Hopefully, this kind of workshop will be planned better next time around.

mediating conflicts in personal enrichment workshop

i guess the workshop was useful. the professor guided us through a couple of examples demonstrating how we go to the office and tell them our problems in Baruch. she gave us templates for each group to present which gave me some info on where i would go next time i have difficulty with a professor or school in general.

Glass Club…guest speaker

this workshop was very interesting…i found that the guest speaker waas very good at expressing his feelings and showing how important it is to express who you are…many people in out society are stereotped and i think that by being who you are, that stereotypes will eventually be eliminated…

Town Hall Meeting

This meeting was very informational…it provided me with alot of information about our school and how students get involved to help Baruch become a very successful school..i think that this meeting made me realize how important it is for students to express how they feel and how they want things in our school because one voice can speak for thousands and it can really change our school around.

Study Abroad Fair

So this event was back in beginning of the semester when i wanted to get the community and awareness workshop done. I went to the multi-purpose room and went into the fair. The fair was pretty organized that each study abroad program had its own table and representative. I found many programs that suited my interest and I wanted to apply to most of them. I found scholarships that funded for these trips too, which is a plus! Coming out of there was massive information, I was content because one of the reasons why i am in Baruch is because of its study abroad programs! You guys should go check it out the next time its available! Don’t you want to go out and explore? =]

Personal Enrichment – Managing Relationships

This particular workshop requires that students go around the all-purpose room 1-107 and interact with other students.  The students raised several questions concerning ways to go about maintaining a relationship in college.  The main speaker was a professor of psychology at Baruch and offered several key pieces of advice about relationships in college in her presentation.  This workshop forces students to open up and meet new people.

Student Life – Club Fair

The Club Fair is a great place to start if a student wishes to get involved in Baruch.  There are many interesting clubs that I would have never thought to exist.  I attended a little to early and ended up waiting for about a half-hour for certain clubs to show up.  Some club members were very aggressive in attempting to recruit students while others offer material incentives to join their clubs.  I signed up for the Italian Society which I still attend and the Accounting Society wchich had a few demands that I was not ready to pursue as a freshman.

Arts at Baruch – Mishkin Gallery Tour

I would advise anyone who attends this workshop to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled time, otherwise you will end up waiting on line in the lobby for a half-hour as I did.  The tour itself wasn’t anything to be excited about.  The  15 minute tour was nothing special but felt like something to get over with.   The photography artwork itself did not grab my attention except for one or two photos that reminded me of my family’s  land in Italy.

Career Exploration – Resume Writing

I would say that this workshop pertains the most to helping a student prepare for his or her career.  I wasn’t aware that we had to schedule an appointment for Career Workshops but I was allowed in after the administrators decided to fill the empty seats that were available.  The students were provided with a packet that offered a template for creating a professional resume and offered seveal excersises that spark a student’s memory in order to recall what accomplishments to write down on a resume.  The presentation was clear and well-prepared.  I would recommend this workshop for any student having difficulty preparing a resume.

Community-Global Awareness – Film Series

Because I started attending workshops a little bit later than I should have, I had to sign up for one of the last workshops for Community-Global Awareness which was the Film “My Beautiful Laundrette.”   Now before anyone makes fun of me for choosing to attend a film with a title such as “My Beautiful Laundrette,” I must let you know that I didn’t feel comfortable giving blood to fulfill the community-global awareness workshop and I was getting desperate becuase there weren’t any community-global workshops scheduled for the remainder of the semester.  Either way the film was cancelled but there was a kind lady at the lecture hall who signed all of the students’ planners.  I was grateful becuase I didn’t want to stay at Baruch until 5 o’clock on a Friday.
