Conversation with Joseph O’Connor (10/20/09)

Although I usually don’t enjoy it when authors read their writing out loud, I liked the way that Joseph O’Connor read his work. His Irish accent gave it a mellow quality, and he didn’t stress out words or overdo the acting, and instead talked naturally. I especially liked the piece he wrote about Patti Smith. I liked how coincidental his discovery of her was, the way that he came across her album by accident and only bought it for its cover, and then came to like her music as well. It felt genuine.

I would recommend this workshop to anyone who’s interested in creative writing.
