Adding Color to Your Life

I attended the Adding Color to Your Life workshop on November 12th. This workshop was designed for students to hear the story of an openly gay man who ran for public office. The goal of this workshop was to show that an openly gay person is just as qualified as a person who is not gay. I feel this workshop was very successful at achieving that goal. I selected this workshop because one day I may plan to run for public office. This took me out of my comfort zone because I am not gay and I do not frequently encounter gay people or know much about their struggle. The workshop met my expectations and I would recommend it to any type of student because it is very informative and interesting. What I learned from the workshop was that the man who was running for office was fit for the job and that being gay did not effect his work. What surprised me was that even though the man was so qualified for the job, he did not win a seat in public office. This workshop opened my mind and helped me understand some important social issues.
