Blood Drive

I attended this workshop on October 6, 2009 and I had my appointment at 1:00 pm. This workshop was about helping the hospitals with the donation of blood. Today, there is an insufficient amount of blood that is available for patients that need it. the goal of the workshop as I understood it was to come together as a community-no matter where you were from, what gender you were, or what political view- to help donate the gift of life: blood. I selected this workshop because for the past 2 years, I have been donating blood at my former high school and I feel that it is my little seed into helping this big world. I might be small and can’t change the world, but I hope to change someone’s life by allowing them to have my blood when they need it. The workshop did not take me out of my comfort zone because it has been something that I enjoy doing and something that I see as a responsibility. However, I was disappointed because I was denied to donate blood because I am a little bit anemic, so my iron level is low. I would greatly recommend others to donate blood in the next blood drive because although some people might be a little nervous about blood, in the end you know you did it for a good cause. The thing that I learned from this workshop was not only seeing that the amount of people that are willing to help nowadays has increased but also that if you want to help others out, first you need to take care of yourself. The last time I had donated blood was in March and I was perfectly fine and in such little time, I became a little anemic. We can’t take things for granted and have to take care of ourselves. 🙂

One Response to Blood Drive

Your intentions were good even though you weren’t able to donate, but yes I agree, we all need to first take care of ourselves, epsecially in college!
