Club Fair

I attended this workshop on September 24, 2009. The goals of this workshop were to allow students to meet new people and join organizations that were of their interest(s). During the club fair, I went around to many of the clubs that I thought seemed interesting and I decided that I would meet the members of the club and if I was interested I would join. I knew that by joining a club, not only would it help me meet new people (as the shy person that I am), but it would also help me learn much more about the topic/idea/concept of the club. I went to the Best Buddies Club and I thought it was very generous and thoughtful for students to be friends with people with disabilities. I don’t think that those people have many friends because sadly sometimes others think that people with disabilities are not “good enough” or they are not “normal” to be friends. I think that it is a great way to interact with others in the community that need a special friend. I also went to the Latin Ballroom Group and I thought it was a great idea. I am Hispanic and I love to dance, no matter what kind of music it is. I saw this club as an opportunity to meet people while I did one of the few things that I love to do. many would think that there would only be Hispanics in the club, but actually there is a lot of diversity as I saw the first time I went to a meeting. There were other clubs that I thought would be a great experience, such as the Women in Business, AISEC, the Billiards and Bowling Club, et al. This workshop did meet my expectations because I learned a lot more of each club before even going to a meeting. I would recommend another student to not just go to each club fair they can, but to go to the Student Life office and ask for a list of clubs and check out what they like. The thing that I learned from this workshop was that even though Baruch is a commuter school and everyone is busy getting home to do work, there is so much to do and all you need is to give yourself time and the opportunity to try something new. 🙂
