Library Workshop; 10/15/09

Basically in this workshop we were told of the databases that Baruch provided on their site. We could use these databases for research purposes. LexusNexus was one and the other database was EBSCO.

  • I have used EBSCO before for my Research&Technology class back in highschool so I knew how to search stuff up.

The person running the workshop showed us examples on how to research effectively and usingĀ little time. Quotations and prepositions help a lot on finding stuff that have the exact words so your search will have narrowed down to a few results. The more words you put in a quotation, the narrower the results will be.

  • This is really helpful in cases when a person has work or has no time to waste. They would not have to go through all the links resulting from a very broad term they looked up.

I didn’t really see the point of writing down something we have learned from this workshop on a piece of paper though, since we had to hand it in, but I do recommend this workshop to others since a majority have not used a database before and/or knew about the use of quotations in a search engine.
