Today I went and checked out the Art Gallery for the works of Mercedes Matter at the building on 22nd street. First of all, I would like to mention that I never knew there was a building on 22nd street. Now about the gallery. After waiting for about fifteen minutes for the group before mine to be finished, I was finally allowed in. I found the gallery quite small, but pretty comforting. Well about the art, Mercedes Matter’s style was that of impressionism. The guide explained to the group the way in which Matter’s uses simple shapes in her artwork gives the art a three dimensional feel as well as a two dimensional feel at the same time. She showed us specifically the use of triangles in a painting of a table top still life for this purpose.
