Club Fair! (late post) 9/24/09

So I gave the club fair a bit of a look and saw lots of interesting clubs. I didn’t really see anything that I would particularly be interested in, but I think I eventually will find something that suits me. So did anyone else check out the club fair? And if you did, did anyone join any cool clubs?

Club Fair 9/24/09 @ 12:30-2:30

I attended the club fair during our club hours around 1:30 pm. Basically when I got there I saw a lot of clubs and sororities and frats trying to get people to join them. My goal for attending this fair was to sign up for at least one club, which I did. I joined USG, which is the Undergraduate Student Government. I wanted to join this club because I think its a good club to have in such a large school. This club is basically the voice for the student body.

I guess this work shop did take me out of my comfort zone. I saw a lot of different people and actually communicated with them. So far most of the workshops I’ve gone to had only freshman and people I already knew, but here I interacted with people who were a lot more experienced in clubs and just the school life in general.

This was a fun experience. They had music, dancing, food and people yelling all over the place. It was a really exciting time. I would recommend that people attend these fairs. I got there a little later than I wanted to, so for anyone who wants to go, they should go early even though its crowded. Some of the clubs leave after a while. I learned that its never too early to join a club and it look greats on your application for jobs and etc. I really enjoyed the environment and the experience.

Library Tour/ Academic Enrichment

Sorry it took me so long to post, I finally got signed on.

Library Tour: The tour was helpful. I was glad that i found out where to rent laptops and textbooks which can be very helpful. The tour was pretty basic and i guess that what we needed since most of us have no idea what is located in the library.

Enrichment: I went very early to the activity, and good thing because when i left the lines were wrapped all the way outside. The activity was helpful because it was nice to know that we do not need to pick a minor that soon and we have time to decide in case we change our minds.  The advisers/ helpers were really nice and helpful. A lot of the information I already knew from orientations but I guess it was nice reminder.  The even was better than I thought it would be. : )

Club Fair! 9/24

Club fairs are so fascinating. =D Although I had a long journey to get into the gym… it was still fun :] I didnt sign up for any clubs at the fair but maybe  some other time? So we walked around lane to lane, TEAS<3 and a frat were giving out thai milk tea! :] It was good but just not my taste. I didn’t spot an Anna anywhere at her club. ):

The highlight of it was the entertainment at the back of the gym! For a long period of time, I wasn’t able to see what was going on in the middle. I wasn’t neither tall enough or in the front. So halfway through, some people left and I moved to the other side. The people danced fairly good and the rap was nice too!

Overall, it was an awesome experience to add to my college career. :p

Club Fair

The club fair was very informative in my opinion. I didn’t realize how many different organizations there were at Baruch. I was impressed by how many groups there were for specific majors, such as accounting, finance, marketing, etc. The fair was beneficial to me, and probably many others, because it triggered my interest in joining a club and get involved. There was a club for everyone, literally.

Freshmen Reception! 9/17

This has been saved to my drafts for a long time. O:

17 Sept. 09

So today, there was an enrichment workshop scheduled! When we got there, we saw how massive the line was to the tiny room (where all the academic advisors were in). Before, everyone was lining up to sign in, but then since there were more students coming then expected, a staff told us to just go in. I was at the door when this happened, (lucky me!) so I didn’t have to sign yet still got my folder! (: Then we made it inside the room– the lemonade was so-so and I didn’t get to grab any cookies. ):

It was mildly stuffy in there– people were seated around a table, each with an advisor present–others swarmed around the advisors to get their planners signed as quickly as possible then leave but first they had to ask questions and do some silly stuff like meet another fellow Baruchy that we’ve never met before =D. We were basically rushed out though since only 200 students were expected to actually come to the workshop. The amount was far greater than what they had in mind so most people just got in , got it signed, and left.

So basically, I didn’t learn much from it and it’s due to the fact that more than the expected amount of students came. I am understanding. 8)

Club Fair 9/24/09 @ 12:30

As for those who went to the Freshman Workshop last Thursday, I’m sure we all had a moment of de ja vu. It was at the Baruch Gym, near the swimming pool. There was a HUGE line just to GET INTO the fair. Once you got in, there were MOBS of people all over each club !!

Like Brian, I joined the Japanese Club too. I didn’t join simply because there was a plate of free sample dumplings in front of the booth, but always because it was very interesting !! Likewise, I saw Anna at the Student Honour club thing too.

I was disappointed because I couldn’t find the Breakdancing Club. The booths were not really organized well and due to the crowds, it took too long to move down one isle just to see the clubs so I didn’t bother wasting time looking for the BD Club.  Also, I was disappointed to hear that people were beakdancing after I left >__< I wanted to see the competition at Baruch. But it was good that I left though because I had to finish my math homework anyways. Good time management eh?

club fair

so many freshmens came to the club fair. I went around and saw almost everyone of them. Only club i signed up for was japanese club or w/e just because it said karaoke and sushi on the flier =).

i saw anna at the honors society club lol. didnt even bother paying attention, too smart for me, no offense =x

i was gonna sign up for the archery club too but then i got distracted by the music and the dancing they had. People were break dancing and it was pretty funny and it was something i liked =x

i didnt like the fact that it was all crowded and you had no room to walk but overall it was good since you got to know all the different varities of clubs baruch has for us.

Academic Enrichment

I found Academic Enrichment extremely purposeless and unproductive. It was lunchtime and the food was basically non-existent. The wait was unbearable. Everyone was perplexed. Apparently, the fiasco occurred because the Baruch committee anticipated 200 students and surprisingly, received the entire Freshman class. In my perspective, I thought the Baruch committee definitely could have handled the situation better. It would have been less complicated and troublesome if they announced a shortage of folders and asked all the students to return at another Academic Enrichment workshop on a later date. They also could have distributed 200 postcards or emails that admitted one person. According to Jeffrey’s blog entry, its evident that he had a awesome experience with cookies, lemonade, jokes, and useful information. Therefore, I’m considering taking another Academic Enrichment workshop.
