Since it is required that all Freshman Seminar sections participate in community service, our Student Life coordinator, Marco Dinovelli has forwarded me the information for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer taking place in New York City on October 10th-11th, 2009.
I am excited to try and get involved with this charitable event and cause this semester with you all!! It will be my first time participating in such an event and I look forward to sharing it with you all.
My goal is to get this spot for Saturday October 10th:
29th St & 9th Avenue (Mile 13.1)
29th St & 9th Avenue, New York, NY
Peak viewing times: 10:00am-2:00pm
Directions: Cheering Station is located on the southeast corner of 29th and 9th Avenue.
By Subway-1, 2, 3 or A, C, E to Penn Station walk southwest to 29th and 9th Avenue.

So, what do my fellow Baruchians think?
OUR CHEERING SECTION IS @ THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF 29TH STREET & 9TH AVENUE ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10TH FROM 10AM-12PM…..BRING YOUR WAIVERS IF YOU HAVE NOT SUBMITTED THEM TO ME YET!!!
Ok so far only Dana & Anam has approached me saying that they cannot attend the Oct. 10th community service class event that Saturday. I’ve faxed over the form and we will be a cheering section at 29th St and 9th Ave from around 10am-12noon. Times are flexible. I will speak more about this in class on Wed. Sept. 30th after your presentations.
Well I’m not necessarily sure how we can change that at this point in my Freshman college career. But i believe support is the best thing we can do, when we are not sure how else to help.
Breast cancer has obviously affected almost all of us in different ways. Most of us know someone who has breast cancer, or had breast cancer; mother, sister, cousin, aunt, friend. I think this is a good idea idea for community service and probably one of the most meaningful ways we can perform it.
Glad to hear it and since you feel we are not really making a huge stride, how can we change that Charles?
I think this is a good idea for our community service workshop. Although we are not making a huge stride for Breast Cancer research, i feel like our participation is important. I didn’t even know this event was happening in the city. I’d love to participate in this, Jordan.
