NEXT CLASS: Oct. 28th

After a 3 week period of not meeting in class, our next session will be covering Academic Advisement and will be held in our regular room, 3-190 at the same class time, 9:05am. Lateness will be frowned upon and absences will only hurt you for when you must register for next semester’s classes in November.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to prepare for your advisement session.  It is important that you complete the assignment and come prepared for your FRO advisement session.

Please follow these three easy steps:

Step One:  Using your home or campus computer log on to http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/advisementsession/  and review L.U.C.Y.’s on-line advisement session.

Step Two: Complete the registration schedule (course selections) on the back of this letter.

Step Three: Bring your completed registration schedule (course selections) on the back of this letter, a pen and a highlighter to your in-class advisement session.

Academic Advisement Workshop

I attended this workshop and got a sense that maybe more students showed up then anticipated by the advisors. There were a couple tables set up in the room with the refreshments where students could talk to advisors but the level of traffic, I think, prevented a lot of people from getting the opportunity to talk to them. Maybe next time they should refrain from mentioning refreshments. 😀 They did give  information in folders that I found useful pertaining to selecting your minor, the form for declaring a minor and requirements for the different schools at Baruch.

Enrichment Workshop: Ethics

After attending the Ethics workshop I left with a new point of view and understanding of ethics in the world. We did several hands on activities to show how different people have different views on subjects.

I took away with some good points of ethics and hope to expand upon them with other workshops I attend during the semester. Though it was a little boring it was beneficial, you guys agree?

How was the academic advisement workshop?

I went to the academic advisement workshop on thursday at 12:30. It was not what I expected, there was so many students that I waited 30 minutes to get into the room. They were not prepared for the large amount of the students that attended. I was unable to get any information out of the workshop, and did not get a folder that contain all the informations. However they did apologized for the situation and sign everyone’s agenda.

Fresh Start Freshman Open House 2009

Wow what can I say about this workshop. Well for starters I was disappointed. When I came inside I thought they would have more refreshments, other than 2 cookies and lemonade. Aside from the cookies, I expected an actual workshop, but I assume that since there were so many people, the advisers just signed our books and asked us to leave. There was suppose to be a raffle, but we never got around to it.  Although the workshop was disappointing, I have to admit that the cookies were delicious, the lemonade was a nice, refreshing, full, and big cup, and the music selections were good.

The Upper Floors

I had the privilage of going to the upper most floors of the Baruch vertical building on the second week and I was shocked at how much more “business-like” it was on those floors. It really seemed like an office building up there as opposed to the lower levels which housed most of the hustle and bustle. These upper floors have rooms that resemble that of corporate rooms. And everyone up there is “dressed for success.” I was just wondering what exactly goes on up there in terms of maybe a Virtual Enterprise team or something similar

Are Baruch Students lacking the true college experience?

I personally don’t feel left out of anything.  However, a lot of people claim that a  true college experience is embodied by dorming, frat parties, and forming blood-buddy relationships with the people on your floor.  As we all know, Baruch is a commuter campus and dorms aren’t exactly a priority to most students.  We are all getting a great education at a respectable school, but does that small setback take away from the whole meaning of college?
