Academic Enrichment Workshop

Get a Fresh Start – Academic Enrichment

September 17th, 2009

The goal of the workshop is to find out how to choose our majors and minors.

I went because I needed to fulfill my attendance of 6 mandatory freshman workshops as well as to attain guidance on how to complete college.

I expected the workshop to be in a room or lecture hall where a speaker would talk to us about choosing our majors and minors as well as the process to do this. What really happened was a big mess in the little Academic Advisement Center room, where I barely found out about anything.

I learned that college really is a dog eat dog world and only those on top of their game win. I need to find out how to do things on my own because everything is a mess, and whoever has real advise that can actually guide me through the process of completing my 4 years of college is my savior.

I am sorry to hear about this experience, however, it may mean that you have to further investigate and seek answers to questions you have that were not answered. This may mean that you have to return to the office and have a one-on-one conversation. Yes, some info will be useless but other things you will find critical towards your success as well! Don’t give up- keep pushing forward

so you didn’t learn anything about picking a major or minor? 🙁
i can’t imagine the craziness in that little room during the event (fire hazard, anyone?), but at least you realized college is a place to fend for yourself. a lot of information can actually be found at the baruch website, which is where i learned everything i needed to know. the staff can be so clueless and misguiding sometimes. 🙁

you can always bother me, haha 😀
but don’t worry about choosing a minor (on paper) yet, just take the classes want to minor (see baruch.edu > academics > undergrad dept / programs) in… and as for your major… just know which school (business, liberal arts, public affairs) you want to get into and carry on from there 😀
