Managing Relationships in College
October 8, 2009
The goal of the workshop was to educate the freshman how to “manage relationships.”
I went to this workshop to fulfill my 2nd out of 6 total workshops needed as a freshman.
I expected this workshop to be in a larger room, and it was (multi-purpose room). I knew it would be packed with freshman trying to get their workshops over with. The workshop was not as boring as I had thought it would have been, so I guess it was a successful one.
What I’ve learned from this workshop was to really start meeting new people, the more the better. Relationships are extremely important no matter what kind it is, as long as it’s a positive one. They can lead to internships, new partners (boyfriends/girlfriends), business relationships, etc. Relationships with professors can help make learning easier, and if you were to ask for a letter of recommendation, they would write it much better because they know you better. Meeting upper-classmen can help prepare you for the road ahead with tips and advice. After they graduate and find a job, they may even help you get an internship or recommendation.
I’ve had an internship this summer and I think it’s a head start for me because I’ve met so many important people in that company including the CEO. Hopefully this helps me after I graduate.
Wow! It is so important to have internships during college and to start using what you are learning in the classroom in real life! They will help you narrow down the field you may want to select as a career! The internships will also serve you well once you look to apply to grad schools and for a full-time job…
the internship you did last summer would definitely be a plus on your resume! just remember to stay in touch so they can always be a reference for you 🙂
