Building and Managing Relationships

On November 8th i attended the “Building and Managing Relationships” workshops located in room 1107 in the vertical campus at 12:30 PM. This workshop has definitely helped me since I’ve been to it. It was all about managing your time and hanging out with family and friends while still having ample time to do your work sufficiently. It taught me to plan my time accordingly for things that are important, but also has taught me that having your family and friends around you also helps you out because in times of stress, they are ultimately the people who see the most and know you the best so they are in the best position to help you.

Student Club Fair

On October 13th, at 12:30, a few of the kids from our Freshmen Seminar class and I decided to go this workshop located in the vertical campus, 1230-2. The club fair was a great way to see what the school really offers. Everyone was represented in the club fair, so it was great to see what the school had to offer. It was very crowded though and kind of overwhelming because all the students simply wanted to get their paper punched ten times and leave so it was very chaotic. The club fair ultimately was a great way to understand the school a little better and it help me very much.

Mercedes Matter: Art Gallery Tour

I went to the art gallery tour of Mercedes Matter to fulfill the Arts at Baruch requirement. The gallery is located on 22nd street at the Mishkin Gallery. I attended this with prior knowledge of art based on my experience from high school to the art class i am taking now. We were show ten works in sequential order and how they played a large part in the artist’s career. I was transfixed on the detail that the artists were able to capacitate in one work. However, I would only recommend this seminar to those who have a keen sense of art.

Mercedes Matter: Art Gallery Tour

I went to the art gallery tour of Mercedes Matter to fulfill the Arts at Baruch requirement. The gallery is located on 22nd street at the Mishkin Gallery on Baruchs campus. The place was packed with students who were eager to fulfill their Arts at Baruch requirement. Finally i got in, and we were shown ten artworks in chronological order order and how they represented the artists life. In all honesty though the tour to me personally was a bore and i couldn’t wait to get of there, because i was just doing it to fulfill my last workshop, but this tour could definitely be appreciated by other people who enjoy this kind of art.

Global Community Awareness

I attended the Blood Drive in NVC 1-107 on October 6. I was nervous at first because i hate needles and blood makes me squimish. However, the lady that worked there was very nice and attentive to my fear of needles. She helped me get through this and I realized that my cup of blood could be the difference in a life or death situation for someone in need. I came out of there feeling Exuberant to the fact that i faced my apprehension toward needles.

Pursuing your Passion: Choosing Your Major

On november 3rd, at 12:30 PM i attended the career exploration workshop of “pursuing your passion”, in the vertical campus room 5-213. To start i will definitely recommend this workshop to people who are undecided with what they want to do with their lives for a few reasons.   his workshop was a helpful tool in helping me figuring out what kind of career i want to pursue since i am very undecided, but from the teachers lecture and participating in the exercises a few things became clearer to me and and now i have a grasp on what i want to do.

Blood Drive

On October 6, 2009 at 1:30 PM, I attended the Blood Drive in NVC 1-107. I have done it on numerous occasions through out my high school career, so i wasn’t as nervous as the “first timers” there because i knew what to expect. Also, having had numerous blood tests through out my life, have trained me to know what to expect when a needle is being punctured into your veins. I enjoy giving blood because I know it will make a difference in someone else’s life down the road and that makes me very happy.

Blood Drive

On October 6, 2009 at 1:30 PM, I attended the Blood Drive in NVC 1-107. A lot of people were there, willing to donate blood to the less fortunate. At first, I wasn’t sure about donating blood because I’ve donated blood in the past and I usually faint after donating blood. This time, I made sure to eat a full meal before donating, so I ate a Subway sandwich before I went to the Blood Drive. So I went, but then out of nowhere, I started to get scared again and I couldn’t bring myself to be hooked up. I honestly think I had a confused expression on my face because one of the mentors there came up to me and asked me what was wrong and I told the truth and explained how I tried to donate blood but the fear that I would faint again came into my head. He understood me and I guess he could tell I was being genuine because he still agreed to sign my workshop sheet. I really do regret not being able to donate blood that day because of my past experiences and I hope to be able to donate blood to the less fortunate someday in the future.

Mercedes Matter: A Retrospective Exhibit

On November 26, I went to the Mercedes Matter Exhibition at the Sidney Mishkin Galler in Baruch College. A lady began to give us a tour of Mercedes Matter’s collection, starting from her earliest paintings of flowers and self-portraits. As we moved on in the gallery, a theme of abstract still-life was evident. Mercedes Matter painted a variety of table still-lifes and used the theme of abstraction throughout these paintings. I learned that many of these oil-on-canvas paintings were influenced by loved ones around her, such as her husband. Matter’s style of painting is definitely considered avant-garde and modern. It was an enjoyable workshop to attend, and although it was hard to grasp the concepts of her works, it made it much more appreciative. I found one of her self-portraits to be particularly interesting and ended up using that for one of my art history papers, so this exhibit really helped.

Greek Olympics

I went to the Greek Olympics  with Sandra. I had no idea this was going on, but im glad i went. It was held on November 17 in the gym in the Vertical Campus.  The Greek Olympics were a bunch of clubs at Baruch competing against one another. I watched because i wasnt in any of the groups, but i enjoyed myself. They had tugof war matches, basketball  games, and basketball free throw competitions. I knew one of the groups there or at least the people in the group and cheered them on though they lost. I liked the atmosphere because everyone was there to have  a good time. There was a dj playing music and some people started dancing. Oh i forgot they also played dodgeball. That was the most fun to watch. I didn’t learn anything from this seeing as how it was a student life workshop so i just got to see other kids in the school having fun.
