Gallery Tour

Two down, four to go. In regards to completing these workshops, it’s been a relatively slow start for me. As I was lining up for the Gallery Tour, I glanced at some of the students passports, and I was amazed by all the workshops students have attended. Some had attended 4. Others had attended 5 workshops. Heck, if my eyes aren’t deceiving me, there was this one girl who didn’t need to attend anymore workshops. I guess she has a true appreciation for art. Speaking of art, the Gallery Tour at the Sydney Mishkin room was good. Never before did I have the opportunity to scrutinize photography. It always been paintings, drawings, canvas, etc. So it was quite interesting to say the least. The tour guide said it best; “Photgraphers aren’t copying nature, they are trying to create their own vision by using nature.” I felt like some of the photographers were trying to convey a subliminal message. It’s easy to think that these photographs are just black and white, but sometimes you have to take a step closer, or a step back to see the message that’s trying to be conveyed. My favorite photograph was a bird’s eye view of a small village in Greece. I can only wonder how can one navigate through those small, white, cramped houses. As I stepped back, it was almost as if the small houses formed a big white fish. Again, who knows, maybe my eyes are deceiving me. Although, I took the time to scrutinize these photographs, the student leaders had left me! I guessed they assumed that everyone was disinterested and wanted to leave immediately. Luckily, I went to the Seminar Office, showed proof of my attendance, and I was able to get credit for the Gallery Tour. I should really stop taking so long at Galleries and Museums. One day, I’ll probably be stranded in the middle of Europe.

the tour was pretty good. But it was way shorter than i expected (not that i’m complaining). I kinda expected the gallery to be alot bigger than it was. But overall, it was something nice to see and experience. And i agree with Kevin. It would have been better if they had student work up also. That would’ve captured my attention more.

the art tour was pretty interesting. i liked how the gallery was to show us another side of nature. but i felt it was missing something. there were some pictures that had caught my attention but other than that i felt as if it didn’t really meet my expectations.

i thought the tour was alright i mean she only showed us 3 sections of the gallery. the tour guide talked about viewing art through different views but not the art itself. she basically just told us how the picture was taken and what its suppose to be

It was actually pretty interesting but I didn’t find it too enriching. Yes it’s good to see and learn about art and whatnot but I mean we’re in New York where some of the worlds best museums are and I think it would have been much better if it would have been centered around student and/or proffesors art. It would have been great to see student work displayed to see what my new school can produce artistically. But it’s a pretty nice gallery, small but nice. Overall it was a good way to fufill a course requirement thing.

  5. im not sure but jose i felt that the gallery could have been more expansive. A lot of the works of art are superbly done, but i felt that it could have captured more towards nature besides give us a new sense of how to look at nature as the guide talked about it. Many of the works ive tried to do before using my digital camera but i have yet to try it on a DSLR camera. It was pretty cool seeing everyone who was going to the gallery.

today’s art tour was interesting, but not very helpful. i didn’t really see the point of this activity, since it did not help me academically or socially. nevertheless, the pictures were pretty cool. i’m pretty amazed that jose learened so much from today’s workshop, and many others enjoyed it too. i guess one of the things that was a little unexpected for me was the size of the gallery, because whenever i hear the term “gallery” i would picture a big place like the MOMA, instead our gallery was rather small.
