Academic Enrichment

For my Academic Enrichment requirement, I was able to fulfill it by attending the Database Survival workshop. It basically demonstrated the vast amount information that can be attained for college related work. Although I’ll probably continue to use wikipedia for daily use, the search engines provided by the Newman library are much more credible & scholarly. In my opinion, if you plan to procrastinate then it probably isn’t a good idea to use this alternative. It can become very stressful & overwhelming trying to narrow down the information you need. But if you’re the ideal college student, of course you use this massive database. To conclude, the guy conducting the workshop was very charming. At my request, he dedicated his he signature to my mom.

personal enrichment

i think the diversity workshop with emily was the one i got the most out of. we all got to see different sides of each other. by that time, i knew everyone well enough not to worry about what they would think of me. i thought that workshop was the most fun out of all of them

student life

back in september, my friend and i went to the club fair. we stopped by earlier and saw that it was pretty crowded, so we decided to get something to eat and check it out later. when we did go, everyone was pretty much packing up and leaving. there were some clubs i wanted to check out but didnt really get the chance to join. somehow my friend and i were roped into the phillipino club. we went to that for about 2 meetings

arts at baruch

a couple of days before the career thing, i went to see the mishkin gallery to fulfill the arts at baruch spot. i heard that the gallery always gets filled up and crowded, so i texted a friend to see if there was a line there. he saw it was completely deserted and we decided to get pizza and then go. we shouldve gotten pizza after because even though we didnt take long, there was already a big line in there. once we got it, the tour guide showed us several paintings of squares and triangles. it got me thinking about who really decides what art is. a painting of a bunch of squares could sell for a lot more than a painting of a landscape. the tour was pretty short

career exploration

around mid november, i went to some job fair planning thing. it was in the multi purpose room. there were 2 guys over there who were talking about communication in the workplace. they were talking about their experiences and what corporate bosses expect to see. overall, i thought a lot of stuff they said was pretty useful.

community global awareness

so a couple of weeks ago, i went to help out sasha at her golden key event. i agreed to help NOT ONLY because i needed to fulfill the global awareness slot, BUT to also HELP OUT sasha. i wasnt too sure what i was supposed to do, but we were told to dress up. so i wore a white shirt and black tie. when we all got there, we started putting up balloons, and then taking all the drinks and food to 14th floor (which is how we found the express elevator) to the conference/reception room. we started arranging the chairs and tables, and jalene and i started hanging up the decorations (because i was told i do it so well). it was then that we realized that we were overdressed. when the people started coming in to the reception area, we all started serving them. i was perfect for the job because i was dressed up like a waiter. we all left around the same time, but not before me, kevin, and mike grabbed a sandwich and chicken fingers and a bunch of other stuff. i regret not taking another sandwich. we all said bye to sasha and left together. the golden key thing was pretty good. we met some new people and we got sandwiches. sasha was really busy though.

Personal Enrichment

November 18 we had a diversity workshop with Emily. We talked about different global issues with the class and played a game where you stand in a certain side of the room depending on your opinion on a topic. It was interesting to see what everybodys opinions on things like racism were and afterwards we played charade and pictionary which was hilarious. It was a great way to end our last class with Emily.

Student Life

In the veryyyyy beginning of the semester I went to the Freshman Reception, which apparently every freshman went to so they directed us to another room and an academic counselor spoke for 5 minutes about how we cant see her till we acquire 75 credits which I think is ridiculous. This happened September 7th in room 5-215 I just sat here wondering why i did not blog about this earlier but then i remembered it really was anot a real workshop i sat down for 5 minutes and got my passport signed. Next year they should definitely be a little more organized for the Freshmen.
