Personal Enrichment

A few weeks ago I went to the Personal Enrichment workshop about managing problems with other people and forgot to blog about it. It was SERIOUSLY overcrowded and it was kind of ironic because as the speaker was talking about resolving problems we heard people outside cursing up a storm after they were told that the workshop was closed. Anywho, it was actually kind of a relaxed environment where a lot of people opened up and spoke up, even saying how the workshop system didn’t work at all and what was necesary to change it. It was definetly one of the better workshops and I’m glad that i did it.

Career Exploration

Ok so I definetly did this workshop like months ago but I forgot to blog about it so here it is. I went to a career exploration workshop a few months ago involving internships. It was actually pretty interesting and definetly stuck with me. One of the heads of the Star Career Development Center was there and I introduced myself at the end of class. She told us about how we should get started on looking for internships ASAP and apply for as many as we can. Also she told us of a lot of organizations that could help us. Aside from the annoying people sitting in front of me who wouldn’t shuttup, it wasn’t that bad.

Impression management

I recently went to a work shop about first impressions. This one was actually helpful and contained alot of information on what we could do to make an impression. for example they way you are dressed and the way you shake hands. Also it talked about the power of network and thats how most people obtain jobs. Overall I was satisfied with this workshop and if they are going to make us do workshops they should be more informative like this one.

Diversity

in class when we were playing those games i really did learn some things about other people in the group i did not know. this might sound strange but i do feel a certain closeness to the people i found out new stuff about because i feel like i know something about them that not a lot of other people in baruch know. thank you so much emily and sasha for helping us with these great workshops and helping us even make on in class! you guys are truly amazing and if in the near future i have any problems i will be sure to come to you guys.

Arts at baruch

i went early like sasha told me and i was the first one there when i saw that i did not believe sasha and then the people started coming i could not believe how many people and was so happy to be one of the first people there. i did not really find the art impressive at all but thats okay, everyone should have there own opinion. it was defienetely an experience though

your life your money

hiiii everyone i am writing to you about some of the workshops i went to recently, and i am not writing in good grammar because i just got surgery on my finger ( i broke it during thanksgiving) and that is why i have not been in school recently! 🙁  anyways on november 11th i went to this workshop for student life and it was called your life your money. they told me i needed to stay there for 2 hours after school from 6-8 and i almost wanted to cry. they informed me that we would  be watching a film about how to save money. the film was very interesting and the speakers after were great! i ended up wanting to stay for the whole thing which was great. i brought home a gift bag for my dad with a book and dvd about the topic knowing he would love it.

Career Exploration

I went to the starr career development center to complete my career exploration workshop. The workshop was pretty long but the information and the power point slides were very effective in showing us the many options and opportunities we have here at baruch. The attitude of the teacher was good as well because she allowed us to become part of a big group and open up a big discussion. At the end i was starving but i found this workshop pretty helpful,

Student life: Baruch bearcats.

Well i wasn’t able to attend the club fair seeing as how i had practice that day with the soccer team. Being on the soccer team with baruch was a good way in showing me student life out of just class. HS soccer and College soccer differ in big ways everyone is stronger and the game is much quicker and physical. I had a great time traveling to dorming colleges because the school spirit was huge there, in some games there were over 200 people attending. But for the home games the baruch fans never really showed not even for our semi final game. I think we need more school spirit and a little more appreciation to the worlds sport haha. Overall the soccer team was a great experience in initiating my start as a freshman in baruch.

ARTS AT BARUCH

Well the workshop wasn’t that bad but i was just frustrated at how long the lines were to wait to get in. Some of the artwork was interesting and the lady made me feel that she really loved art. I kinda connected with her seeing as i use to draw a lot and had a thing for art as well. Overall it was a pretty good experience just wish the wait was quicker because standing on line was frustrating.

Emily’s Personal Enrichment Workshop

im glad emily had her own mini-personal enrichment workshop for us. i think the topic was about diversity..but i dont remember her talking about diversity that much. only for like the first 5 minutes of the class. that circle game she had us play was kinda awkward. its weird to just step in and step out. i just ended up not stepping into the circle even before she got to the personal questions. the agree/disagree thing was less awkward though. i guess she just wanted everyone to participate. its a good way to run a workshop. it would be more effective than lecturing to a group of students.
