I attended the library workshop this Thursday, October 15, 2009. This workshop’s goal is to teach student how to use the library database. The workshop had solved the question I have before during the Library tour leaded by Run. During the workshop, the speaker showed how to get in the database online, and how it is organized, he also did some examples to helped us get more understanding on how the database work. I learned that Baruch library database has many subjects, that you could use the “Subject Guide” to help you determine which subject is good for you while doing research; Database is better then Google or other search engines for research project, because it has more articles and it is more organized. You could sort your results by their document type, their dates, etc, that Google cannot do. I also learned that searching information in the database is a word games that different keywords that have the same meaning could give you different result. Therefore, when doing research, I have to pay attention on who write it and the way they speak. I also have to pay attention on the color of the words, and that blue is the most common color to use. Within that half an hour, I have learned a lot of things about the database. It is a very helpful workshop that meets my expectations and I would recommend it to everyone!
Have a nice weekend!
