I went to my 4th workshop on Oct.22. It mainly discussed the internship programs inside and outside of school. It introduced lots of benefits of the internship. For example, it gains experience prior to graduation, build a competitive resume and help choose a major. We were told that we could apply for the internship at our junior year and started exploring companies that we might interested in. We could search the Internet for internship websites http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/careers/students/employment/careerlinks.htm. Or we could directly look at the company websites and professional associations listing internship opportunities and gave a call or applied. We should have a perfect resume that should be reviewd by the CDC (College’s Career Development Center) and be prepared for the interview. We could send the resume as much as we want to get much more interviews. The workshop gave us many tips about answering the questions in different circumstances. Meanwhile, we should dress properly to make a good first impression. Also, we needed to prepare a list of references prior to going to an interview for an internship. Becasue sometimes the interviewer may asked students to provide them the references. During the interview, we should pay attention to our communication skills that closely related to the success of the interview. The most important thing that presenter mentioned was the GPA. We should maintain a high GPA that was the basic standard of applying for an internship. I think this requirement can be as a stimulus to encourage me work hard all the time.
