Berlin Wall 20th Anniversary

It was the Berlin Wall 20th Anniversary on Nov. 9th,2009. I went to the workshop and saw the documentary about Berlin Wall. From the workshop, I have learned that Berlin is an island in east German.After the end of WW2, German was split in 4 areas. Berlin was divided east and west in 1961. The Berlin Wall symbolized the Cold War division. While the wall opened, people were excited that stood in the wall. People’s life was totally changed.  It casued the comsumer revolution. People crossed board to buy coffee ad cigarettes in west. A gentleman in the workshop who was a berliner,eold us about his own experience. He “escaped”  and moved to America. He told us that “without war and violence, it meant alot things to alot people”. In Nov. 9th,1989, German united as ONE.  While the Berlin Wall was opened, ppl were excited that they stood in the wall. A west berliner said:”It was their’s first time to look at east Berlin.”  The west berliner described that the policemen surprised them, because policemen told them to go ahead through the wall.  This action symbolized the freedom and peace in Berlin.

Nevertheless, the break-down of the Berlin Wall also inspired alot of artists. Through the arts, we could see the culture of German. I have learned the history of Berlin Wall in high school years. I am so impressed by the history of Berlin Wall. It is such a long wall that uesd to block east and west berliners.  I will go visit it if I have time.
