i attended this student life workshop located in the VC room 3-165 on november 11, 2009. the workshop is called Get involved with USG & Make things happen. USG students for undergraduate student government. the hosts were undergraduate students in this school. they offered pizzas and sodas for people who attend. The president of the USG talked about different types of committees and students can get involve in those things and actually make a difference. i have learned that USG has the power to distribute the school budget for clubs and organizations. They have many committees that they have discussions about the idea and then later decide by the senates in the USG. The Undergraduate Student Goverment really looks like Federal Government in some ways.
Both the USG and the Federal government have executive and legislative. the workshop was really helpful in a sense that student can really get involved in the school. Many officials of the USG talked about their experiences and how they were not into student life. After joining a club or two, they found the college experience is far more beyond what they expected. they were happier and noticed what their voice can do in committees. they suggested many helpful advises to us, like joining a club which can really help people improve their time management skills.
The workshop was really fun, many people that came to the workshop already knew the officials in the USG. Some just came for the free pizza and drinks, some was just there to hangout. i would recommend this workshop because it was informational and helpful.
