Today I went down to east 122nd St. to attend a gallery tour. When I went there, I witnessed a lot of freshmen already present when it’s not even close to 1pm. About 25 students were sent in at once and each tour took about 20 minutes. I swiped my way to the front of the line without getting caught and saw some familiar faces. I was also hungry. During the tour, the lady of the gallery explained each painting and their significance. She went through how each painting was so abstract and many were landscape and still life paintings. She also explained how painting is different from writing. For example, unlike writing, paintings use shapes, color, texture, space, etc. I learned quite a few things such as how this one individual was able to design what she wanted to design and make objects hidden for the viewers to find. I find the tour quite interesting because this artist created paintings that depicted many aesthetic techniques. I liked the painting that looked like it was scribbled scrabbled, where it was unclear and a table was hidden. There were shapes that were outlined as well. After the tour, many freshmen were still waiting and I went off to eat.
