I went to my last workshop today. It was about the suicide case that was the second leading cause of death among college students. The workshop showed us a video regarding the fact and real cases of the suicide. In many cases, suicide was caused by depression. Many people who attempted suicide did feel not good about life, or didn’t see anything to live for. Lots of suiciders suffered the mental illness and polar disorder that led to 2% of suicide cases. They always felt hopeless and got upset very often. Their moods were often up and down. They liked to drink alcohol to get rid of the reality. However, it was much more dangerous toward suicide when they accompany by alcohol or drug use. The workshop gave us a lot of reminders about what should we do when we found out our friends attempted suicide. We shouldn’t leave the person alone and anything used for suicide. We should know the warning signs, sudden change and unnormal behaviors the person showed. We should suggest him/her to talk to the consultor for asking for help. I thought if I do so, I may hurt the friendship and embarrassed him/her. However, the workshop advisors told us that was our responsibility and we should take the issue seriously. Many suicide cases happened because the suiciders never get help from the surrounding. No one cared about them and they also couldn’t tell what around them. Therefore, in order to prevent the suicide cases happened around us, we should give much more care to our friends and pay much attention to our surroundings.
