This Wednesday, I attended a “Internship” Career Planning Workshop during my lunch break. The workshop started from 10:45 and ended at 12:00. But actually, it ended a little bit earlier. In the workshop, staff from the Starr Career Development Center explained different kinds of internship to us, such as paid intership, unpaid intership, and credit internship. Credit internship is an internship that you do not get paid, but you will get course credit for it. Actually, I am a little bit confuse about this one. But I know it has many requirements for application. After you decide what kind of internship you want, you should start researching in the SCDC webpage. There are many useful information within the website. Besides, the presented encouraged us to visit the SCDC office and talk to them for more information. During the workshop, she also mentioned resume, cover letter, and Thankyou letter. The day before, I went to the Resume Workshop. However, the participants were not very active, and not many students asked questions. That workshop ended an hour earlier than the origin ending time. Because I really attended the Resume Workshop, I could understand the presenter pretty well. Now I know a Thankyou letter is very important. But during the workshop, she did not show us an example of Thankyou letter. I wonder if I can find one on the SCDC website. I also got a free “Internship Manual” Instrution Book from the workshop. There were many useful information in the book, such as resume examples, successful dress, and establishing your network. The presenter also gave us some names of companies that offer intership or leadership programs. I will recommend this workshop to anyone who is interesting in having an internship.
