I attended a Townhall meeting on Tuesday, Nov 10, 2009. The workshop was held by the Undergraduate Student Government of Baruch College. When we first went inside the hall, we were served with pizzas and drinks. The members of the Undergraduate Student Government were very friendly and pleasant. The president articulated the fundamental information about how the student government works. He told us that we can form our own committees for an issue. For example, the school is currently working on a project repairing the escalators, and is going to be completed in 2010. Many people who attended the workshop had actively participated, in which a lot of them expressed their own feelings toward different things in Baruch College. The vice president thought some of the ideas were really thoughtful, and many freshmen should get involved in the student government. In colleges, students could be easily heard, just by uniting a group of people who have shared issues. They could give their different opinions to solve the problems or to implement their plans. However, they also mentioned that involvement requires committment and time management, which are often difficult to handle. One of members said he did not consider school activities as that important just like I do now. However, he started participating when he was a sophomore. I personally would like to join some school activities, but I do not have enough time to do so.
