On December 2nd, 2009, I visited the holiday blood drive. The reason behind the visit included fulfilling the mandatory visits to workshop for freshman seminar class, but I also wanted to know if I was eligible to donate blood. I was aware of the fact that many people are in desperate need of blood, and the limit of blood supply was limited. When I visited the blood drive with my friends, the room was very empty and isolated, even though they had prepared very thoroughly for it. They provided a lot of refreshments and beds; however, I felt that the event was not promoted well enough since no one really knew anything about it. The lady at the blood drive was very kind and explained the criteria for donating blood. She said the minimum weight a person has to be in order to donate blood was 110 lbs, and the person must not have any forms of anemia. Also, they said even if a healthy person might feel dizzy after the donation if they don’t consume a lot of food prior that day. Since I didn’t meet few standards and I had a class to attend very soon, I didn’t get to donate my blood but I learned new information about it, and now am very well-informed. I want to encourage those who are interested in saving lives to help out by participating in the next event by donating blood.
