A couple of hours ago, I attended a career workshop based on choosing between different majors. It was quite interesting because the speaker presented some useful information. She asked who in the room already knows what they want to major in and who doesn’t know yet. Most of us know what we want to do in life and for those who doesn’t, she confidently said that it is ok. They could go fill out the questionaire in the Office of Testing Evaluations to determine what their personality is like. Then a list of career jobs can be matched to that personality. I already know what I want to major in, that is, if I’m not willing to change it. She also discussed different types of majors available whether it’s performing arts, accounting, business management, marketing, journalism, computer sciences, etc. I was quite surprised that most students paid attention because normally, they would get bored out or easily fall asleep. This is probably because of the eloquent speech she delivered. She talked about the three schools that we have to get into in order to work on our major. I feel like there are so many expectations we have to take into account in order to get to where we want. It would be such a challenge to meet the requirements. Anyway, it was getting late, but the workshop didn’t last for a long time. She let us out about twenty minutes earlier. It was pitch black outside once i stepped out of the room and looked at the window. Overall, the career workshop is effective because I have learned a great deal from it.
