Resume Writing

I went to the Career Exploration workshop on Resume Writing at November 4th, 2009. I dressed on my business attire, however, I found out that so many people did not wear theirs and they still could get in. Anyway, this is a really helpful workshop. I learned a lot of things about resume writing. A Resume is important for you to apply the job, however, it do not guarantee for getting the job you wanted, it is the interview do. I also learned the formats of the resume, such as it can’t be more than one page, you need to find connection with the job you worked before when you writing the experience part. Writing a resume also a word game and the speaker gave us a helpful list of verb that made a resume sound more professional and powerful.  Not only that I learned How to write a good resume, I also learned many tips on my future working plans and strategies. The first thing I learned is to pay attention while somebody is speaking. The speaker started the lecture by telling us to introduce ourselves to the class, and then after the last person finished, he randomly pointed at a student and asked who is he or she, and most of us did not remember. From the first 10 minutes of the lecture, I learned that I did not pay attention on others’ speech, because I was worry about my own introduction of myself and did not pay attention to other people. In addition, I also learned that there are many skills that are needed for every job: communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, creative skills, leading skills, and problem solving skills. Those six skills are important for every job, and I need to develop them by practicing, and interacting with people, reading and talking more in classes. This is a great workshop that I would recommend it to all students. The interview workshop will be a great follow up workshop to go!  In addition, the Career Development center will help you proofread your resume!
