YES! I said community service. I know at this point you guys are all like =O . As a class, we will be doing some community service. This year, I signed us up to work with New York Cares Day. It will only be one day full of activities.. and no we’re not cleaning up the park or picking up garbage. Taken from the New York Cares Day website, NY Cares Day is where “you and 8,000 volunteers will paint murals and classrooms, organize libraries, and brighten up playgrounds at more than 100 public schools. The work you’ll put in is worth well over $1 million in service to the New York City public school system.”
So I would like to see ALL of you attend (I’m letting you know ahead of time so you can REQUEST OFF from work).
It will take place on Saturday OCT 17, 2009 from 9:30 am-3:30 pm. It is only one day, so please make every effort to come. Oh, by the way guys, you have to make a mandatory donation of at least $20. 🙂 I don’t like hearing excuses ! It will be so worth it, I promise. Last year my Learning Community attended NY Cares Day and we had a blast. I need you to all come and raise money ! 🙂
I will be sending you guys e-mail inviting you guys to register. I will provide further details on how to register.
— EDIT
Ok so in order to register you have to go to www.newyorkcaresday.org and click on JOIN A TEAM. Search for TEAM BARUCH, then it’s going to make you put your personal information, username, and finally pay the $20 donation. If you rather not pay with your card, speak to me and we can work it out.
The school we will be working at is
The Brooklyn Brownstone School
272 MacDonough Street
Brooklyn, NY 11233
Phone: 718.573.2307
HOW TO GET THERE: TAKE the A or C to KINGSTON-THROOP ave.
The school is actually pretty new and as of now only has PreK-1ST grade. HOW cute 🙂
More details to come in our in-class session on OCT 2! SEE you guys then!
Yeah….I’m coming because it would be a crime not to I live at least 15-20 minutes away. I’ll meet up with everyone though, going to Manhattan to just come right back seems pointless.
hey
I would love to… but im working… 🙁
haha stacy.. uhm.. I guess it depends on what location you were at. I hope not to find dead mice in this school o.O
When any payment of money is mandatory it’s not called a donation, it’s called a fee ._. *cries* I did this (New York Cares Day) two years ago to get service credit… Wow, what memories of finding dead mice… lols
This is so nice! I’ll be there for sure.
