Freshman reception/Open house

I was actually one of the people mislead to believe that this workshop was mandatory (thanks Mom), but otherwise, I’m glad I went. For the most part I learned about my graduation requirements and when, how many and which courses I should select for my spring schedule. They say to know this information now because classes go instantaneously. It was similar to the freshman open house I went to which had already explained a little about the three tier minors offered at Baruch.

Mrs. Brown was able to answer my questions after because I was a little overwhelmed during the whole scoop of things. She told me that it was ok I didn’t take math this semester, but I have a set of courses like stats I need to take inorder to fuShe explained to me when I can take Spanish and how I can combine my interests of psychology (as intended major) and women’s studies (as intended minor). Something I really appreciated about this work shop, aside from those awesome cookies & lemonade, was the fact that questions were taken because there was about three questions I wouldn’t have asked that other kids did and I found the information following was very useful, especially about changing majors and Degree Works.

I would recommend it because it’s YOUR college experience. I typically like to stay on top of things and want to take advantages of all the free programs CUNY offers to make things go as smoothly as possible. Plus these are things you’re going to be doing for the next four years, you might as well know them at  your best from the start. It was hard because I never got a folder and still haven’t gone to academic advisement to get one. A lot of people were there that just took the folders and left or came around 2 p.m. and left, so unless you can withhold in your irritation over the matters above I think you’ll do fine. Plus it even ended a little early if you couldn’t stay the wholetime.
