Sonia Sotomayor 9/17 12:30

The point of this workshop was to understand and explain the role that Sonia Sotomayor is playing in the Supreme courts.  It was to show how the press is split into two parts, one side saying she is tough on and off the bench and the other saying she is tough on the bench but a sweetheart off of it.  I chose this workshop as my personal enrichment workshop because it was interesting to find out about a woman who is serving as the country’s justice on the supreme court, especially since there has been a very select few who have in the past.  It took me out of my comfort zone simply because I always hear about men;s history all the time and rarely do i hear about it from a feminists’ point of view which is what one of the speakers essentially was.  It definately met my expectations in that i was able to learn who Sonia Sotomayor actually was since I have kind of been out of the loop recently, and also i found out why she was so important and not only because she is a justice in the Supreme Courts.  I learned that she is the thirs woman to ever serve as a justice of the Supreme Court, and she is the first Hispanic to be elected to the seat.  I also leanred a little background of women’s history in the educatiopnal feild which was interesting since I had not known that Princeton and the other Ivy League Schools were slow in accepting women.  This is definately a workshop i would recommend to others becaus of how educational it was!
