Annual Student Services Fair 2009
NVC 1-107 | 12:30 – 2:00PM | Student Life
Today was the annual student life fair and I thought that since it was a large workshop like the Freshmen Reception, I would be able to get quite a bit of info about student life at Baruch. I didn’t realize it was going to be a table divided event so when I came in, I had questions for some of the subjects there. There were services like Academic Advisement, Student Life, TEAM Baruch, Leads, Medical Services and Financial Aid.
A group of people and I tried to get to as many tables as we could that we were interested in. In particular, I wanted to find out about the DegreeWorks because I had a problem accessing the site. They had a paper with more detailed directions so maybe I can access it later on with more accurate direction. I almost forgot that I had to pick up a minors form, so I’m glad I had stopped by the registrar’s table. I learned about the office locations and the guidelines for selecting a major and it’s helpful that they provided sheets to track ourselves for the future.
I think the workshop was effective because it gave students the freedom of selecting which areas they want to know more information about. Instead to drilling through each subject, people could ask questions that regard to them personally and not have to deal with information they already know about. I think that was more effective than a lecture style workshop. It got a bit crowded in the room because there were so many students that wanted to attend the workshop, so it could get a bit hectic, but chances are, you will still be able to hear the adviser’s comments and garb the sheets that they provide. I think it was a helpful experience.
