Database Survival

Today, I attended the database survival workshop in the library at 12:45 til about 1:15. The professor reviewed important tools in using the online Baruch database, rather than using Google or any other search engine. He showed us how specific types of words and vocabulary can change the search results. If you use words that most likely would be used in a magazine article, there is a higher chance magazine and newspaper articles will come up. However, if you use scholarly vocabulary, more sophisticated scholary articles will appear. You could also find an author that researches only one topic, and read through all of their works.

One thing i did not like about the workshop was that there were too many students that attended in such a small space. Also, the professor did not go into much detail on how to use the database search engine because the workshop was so short in time.
