Career Exploration – VC 3-215 | 12:30-2:30PM
I attended the workshop for internships and goal setting and to summarize it, we went over the ways in which we could get in touch with the STARR Career Development Center and how we can put ourselves in a better position to access internships or Leadership Programs. I previously did not have a clear understanding about how to get into internships and where to start, but this workshop helped me understand it a bit better. She informed us of the steps we need to take in order to prepare ourselves, which include networking through TEAM Baruch or clubs, preparing a resume and having it read over by the STARR Center, and making sure we understand what our personal status is with grades and work.
I felt that I got a lot out of this workshop like with the information on where to access internships and big recruiting companies. The booklet we received contained a detailed explanation of the process and it included examples of resumes and cover sheets. I would recommend this workshop to others because in order to schedule an appointment to see Ms. Conway, the internship adviser, you’ll need to attend a workshop first. They are helpful to gain new experience in fields of interest and acts as a pipeline towards a full job. Internships are also “extended interviews” where companies can see your performance in real-time which could lead to a full-time job there.
