It was an excellent concert. I thought that I didn’t like Mendelssohn’s compositions based on what I heard from limewire, but this particular piece blew me away. It was written after his sister, who was also his best friend, died young, and it was full of emotion. I sat in the front row because when else will I get to be in the front row without paying a lot for great classical? When I talked to the performers after, they agreed with me- none of them particularly liked Mendelssohn before hand but said the piece was an outlier, and they also appreciated him more as they played for the 200th anniversary of his birth.
