These targeted events offer students an opportunity to learn more about pressing global and community issues so that they may become more informed and engaged in the world around them and better able to support their positions on these issues with reasoned assessments. Students may elect to attend a workshop on ethics and explore their values, participate in a discussion on sustainability, volunteer at a soup kitchen; or join a group to help clean New York Parks, assist with book, food or clothing drives.

Sotomayor

I know this is a little late but I attened the Sotomayor workshop a few days ago. Although this workshop did not really go into the history of Sotomayor, it explained the importance of her actions and the importance of her role in the supreme court. This group focused on the oppurtunity and equality of many blacks and hispanics. I am glad to hear of the changes that occur over the years starting from the civil rights movement to having a black president. This leaves hope that one day we might just have an Asian president.Besides the fact, Sotomayor spoke out for her community and she made a great example of someone who didn't have much, but worked hard and got to where she wanted to be.
