I learned that baruch has a lot to offer when it comes to helping out students to succed and go in the right direction. Things such as SACC ( which is like tutoring) comes really handy when you have a major math final or midterm comign up. Also, the STARR center is there for students who need help in choosing a career and getting thigns together
Managing relationships and college
This workshop was not as great as i expected it to be. I guess i expected to much. It pretty much told me everyhitng i already know. Things like not getting carried away with a relationship and managing time wisely with your loved one. It also said that college should be first priority because the next few years pretty much make your life.
Basic Interview Skills
I thought this workshop was really really helpful. It taught me thngs that i did not no before. I have never had to really have an official interview with anyone so i really didn’t no what to expect. With this workshop it should me some techniques to really do well on an interview. It should how to answer different questions and how to act and dress a certain way. After going through this workshop i feel as if i have a better chance of getting a job or something if i were to be interviewed for it
Gallery Tour
The tour did not meet up to my standards. I guess i was just expecting more form it. It was basically looking at pictures on the wall and staring. I was expecting more 3d visuals and things of that sort. The art though was really good i would have to say. it was fun as well.
Impression Management
In October I attended a very important workshop called Impression Management from 12:50 to 2:20 in room 3215. In this workshop I have learned how to correctly present myself to give off a great impression of confidence, intelligence, and ability. I learned that first impressions are very important to your future boss and it is in your best effort to make the impression as best as possible. You have to be aware that your future boss is a very important man with a lot of things in mind, so it is your duty to really capture his recognition of you.
Throughout the lecture, I was becoming more and more impressed. I learned that personal habits such as slouching and not enough eye contact can give of a negative impression to youe future boss. You want to greatly enhance your chance of being his best candidate for the job, so you should not try to give off any negative feedbacks. In the end, I benefited greatly from this workshop. I feel that I should definitely recomment this workshop to other peers so that they can also learn valuable lessons about impression management.
Music club
This was an interesting event. i found out about a battle of the bands organized at Baruch every year and got a free cd. Most of members have different tastes in music than mine, though. Still a solid group.
This year flew by – Summary of FRO
I can’t believe the semesters almost over. Crazy.
I believe in all of my events I am past the requirements of my class, though I only went to three or four workshops. Keep me informed soon if I am still missing something. I will keep posting more events and random stuff as I think of it.
Becker cpa training
I have no interest in being an accountant but I was curious and they had free pizza. Becker is a company that helps people pass the CPA (accounting) exam. They charge a lot of money but it looks pretty good. I learned the CPA exam involves shallow knowledge of hundreds of topics, not deep knowledge of a few. There’s a lot of other details I remember if anyone wants to ask.
Ogilvy
Ogilvy gave a whole presentation on their company, and it looks great for the learning experience. They are just a solid gold company. I will do more research on that internship when I have more time…
