Future Plans

I’m sure I’ve done more things around the school I can put up here, but they’re not coming to mind right now.

So, in case you’re curious, here’s my plans. I am currently working on two practical, right now businesses. I hope to grow them steadily throughout this year to support myself. They are stressful but so worth it, succeed or fail.

In a year I may be in either California, Korea, or still here. It depends on where my girlfriend wants to be!

If I stay, I’ll do the Baruch entrepreneurship program and compete in those contests. If I go to California I’ll go to Silicon Valley and do a high-tech start-up. If I go to Korea I’ll be working on a different high tech start up.

If I can get in, I want to do an internship at Ogilvy advertising this summer.

Enemies:
Procrastination – It’s so easy to waste a day doing nothing when I should be doing business.
Math- &^$% pre-calculus and calculus. *^% it in the &^*.
Far away but would be cool goals:
Learn Korean fluently
Learn to play the organ

Student Government – 2 or 3 meetings

I’ve been to many meetings and know the president, Tanvir, as a casual friend now. I signed up to be a class representative so I can attend higher level meetings. This year’s government looks really organized and Tanvir himself is an excellent speaker and a hard worker. They have a lot of great things planned. I know pretty well how the heirarchy works now. If anyone wants to be in student leadership committees, it’s pretty easy, just ask me and I’ll explain.

Salsa Club

I went to the salsa dancing club and had a lot of fun. It’s way easier than it looks once you get into it, though I have two left feet.

Accounting Club

I can’t remember which club, as this was my first meeting I went to in Baruch. I gave an idea though for a workshop on Forensic accounting, they liked it, and they made it happen a bit later. Freakin’ sweet.

Psy-Chi – 2 meetings

These meetings are really, really awesome. So far we studied a guy who did street tricks with psychology, hypnotizing people to see different colors and more. That was really fascinating. The other meeting had the scientific advisor to Lie to Me, and taught us how emotion is detected on the human face. Way too much work for me to invest my time in, but absolutely fascinating.

Gay Marriage Debate Panel

Very interesting debate that was well catered. I found my professor Tom Bonnet as a panelist and it was a surprise. The pro gay marriage side appeared to me as much more logical arguments. One of the anti gay marriage panelists was a good speaker for someone his age, but gave shallow information without evidence to support his claims clearly. Perhaps I was biased from the start. In any case, the crowd agreed with me and the pro gay marriage side won the debate by vote. Is Baruch considered more conservative than liberal? It’s ridiculous to give yourself labels anyway.

History Club – 3 meetings

This is one of my favorite clubs because the students are intellectually curious and knowledgeable. It is a small club, but it was fascinating hearing a professor speak on the recent nyc elections. There’s always a good discussion going on there…

Toastmasters

The toastmasters are a society for public speaking and they are really something special. It feels like such a close knit but open to outsiders community. The events are a lot of fun and useful. I will definitely become a full member next semester, to prepare for a public speaking engagement for the history club.

Concert – The Alexander String Quartet

It was an excellent concert. I thought that I didn’t like Mendelssohn’s compositions based on what I heard from limewire, but this particular piece blew me away. It was written after his sister, who was also his best friend, died young, and it was full of emotion. I sat in the front row because when else will I get to be in the front row without paying a lot for great classical? When I talked to the performers after, they agreed with me- none of them particularly liked Mendelssohn before hand but said the piece was an outlier, and they also appreciated him more as they played for the 200th anniversary of his birth.
