I think it is great because it helped us to get more information about this school organization. They also provided a website for us. It is the www.usgbaruch.com. It told me more specific information about it. It took a very long time, so every one got specific information about this workshop. They offered food and drinks to us. I think they are very nice because it was started during the lunch time, every one was hungry.

5) How did the workshop take you out of your comfort zone?

The Food they offered isn’t very delicious, but this workshop is very helpful.

Gallery Tour

1) Title of Workshop: Gallery Tour: Mercedes Matter: A Retrospective
2) Enrichment Area Fulfilled: Arts at Baruch
3) Date/Time Attended: Tuesday November 17/ 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
4) How did the workshops affect your perspective of the topic that was discussed?
This gallery tour affected my perspective of the topic that was discussed by presenting me there are some ways to view artworks. To identify an artwork, there are lots of tips to do so, including the perceptive of lines, spaces, shapes and texture. And I never know an artwork could show off the artist’s emotions and thoughts before I went to the tour.
5) How did the workshop take you out of your comfort zone?

The workshop took me out of my comfort zone easily because I love drawing so much. Even the entire workshop presented us only one person’s achievements, I still could see the development during her life span. She tries to maintain the traditional form in the artworks, but also put her own style into them. For instance, it is easy to find all elements through in her paintings, but when you take a close-read, you will also find she doesn’t put much detail as well.
6) Explain what the workshop was about and tell us why you specifically chose that workshop.
The workshop was all about arts. There was a lady going to present us the artworks, and helping us to identify each of them. It was not that crowed because they were only taking a few people to get in the tour each time, which is good for people to enjoy their time. I am always so addictive to listen to the story behind the artwork. And I find this workshop is really helpful for someone who is taking art history course in the future. Anyway, the Gallery Tour is worth half of hour.

Club Fair

1) Title of Workshop: Annual Club Fair

2) Enrichment Area Fulfilled: Student Life

3) Date/Time Attended: Thursday September 24/ 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm

4) How did the workshops affect your perspective of the topic that was discussed?

This Club Fair affected my perspective of the Baruch College deeply by presenting me hundreds of student clubs and organizations. I did not even know what exact college student life looks like until I attended the club fair.  It was helping me know more about Baruch and gave me the sense of career. Joining clubs was a first step to push you out of your own and build up the social networks between peers.

5) How did the workshop take you out of your comfort zone?

The main gym was crowded during the workshop hour. The club fair took me out of comfort zone by meeting new friends. Fortunately, I also met some high school friends there, and we shared our exciting college experience.

6) Explain what the workshop was about and tell us why you specifically chose that workshop.

The annual club fair was all about student clubs and organizations provide information for students about their organizations. Students also distributed flyers or posters for their clubs. Since I want to major in accounting, all I looking for was any club in that field. However, it was so crowded there so that I decided to take their flyers home and sign up online. We were enjoying ourselves and having fun!

Academic Enrichment- Freshmen open house

1) Title of Workshop: Freshmen Open House

2) Enrichment Area Fulfilled: Academic Enrichment

3) Date/Time Attended: 09-17-2009 (12:30PM)

4) How did the workshops affect your perspective of the topic that was discussed?

The workshop was virtually unorganized. None of us expected such large crowd, so we just muddle around and back. Not really enough room to meet the demand. I will suggest a larger room and better organization for future similar activities, though it did give us a good idea of what constitutes college.

5) How did the workshop take you out of your comfort zone?

The workshop takes me out of my comfort zone by introducing me with large crowd of people, which I was not really used to.

6) Explain what the workshop was about and tell us why you specifically chose that workshop.

It is a very informative session that encompasses daily affairs and expectations of a college student especially, freshmen. Subjects such as requirements for major and minor, career goals, and college policies are presented during the workshop, which gives us a general idea of college life. There are no specific reasons why I pick this workshop.

I didnt know that one picture had so many meanings behind it. There were many photos of nature and landscapes at the tour and each picture had an emotion. I thought that was pretty interesting because i never realized that when i looked at a photo.

5. How did the workshop take you out of your comfort zone?

This was my first time going to a gallary tour, but i had a lot of fun looking around at all the photos. It was a large group so we didnt have nice “group discussion” but it was interesting.

3. Date/Time Attended: 10/20/09  12:45-1:15

4. How did the workshop affect your perspective of the topic that was discussed?

I learned a lot through this workshop. I expected this workshop to be very boring since I thought it would talk about the library and how it is organized. However, we discussed how the internet can be useful when we are writing a research paper or some academic paper. I didnt know that google could be so specific and exact when your researching.

5. How did the workshop take you out of your comfort zone?

The workshop was a large group, but all we had to do was listen so i didnt feel uncomfortable. As a matter of fact, i was too focused on the speaker that i didnt even notice all the people around me. I felt pretty comfortable throughout the workshop.

6. Explain what the workshop was about and tell us why you specifically chose that workshop.

This library workshop taught us how to use the interent in a smarter way so that you could find valid information for your school work. We learned how to use google sufficiently so that we could find more educational resources. I chose this workshop to learn more about the library but instead i learned something more useful.

In this workshop, we learned the basic technique of resolving a conflict, which is simply going to the Ombud or whatever they are called to meditate our conflicts with other student or staff.  We even create groups and each group was given a conflict i.e. (mean teacher, bullies in class, etc) also, each group member was given a role: an ombud, the creator of the problem, and the victim then we present the process of mediation to the whole class. Quite interesting!
