Career Exploration

On November 19, I attended the Career Fair Orientation. The meeting was held in a large room, allowing a large amount of students to participate in this activity. I learned a lot of great techniques throughout this workshop. One of the most important tips that I got from the two guest speakers was to leave a strong first impression when dealing with interviews or any encounters with major companies. Firm posture, loud and clear voice, and confidence were the main components of being a great orator. I also learned that appearance was extremely critical when going for interviews. This workshop has given me a whole new view on the business world and has allowed me to learn the most important techniques for getting the career I want. I highly recommend this workshop to other students who are interested in their careers and even to those students who are not. This workshop will help guide students to a successful career.

Academic Advisement !

During club hours, Kaweenia and I went to have a academic advisement meeting with one of our peer mentors Lancia. Lancia asked us what our intended majors and minors were going to be, if we had them decided already. From there she helped us choose which classes would be best for us and the steps that would need to be taken to get into whichever school of Baruch. She also clearly explained to me the pre-requisites and the necessary classes that i need to take for the spring semester as well as the next years to come to successfully graduate. I really appreciated Lancias help because honestly i was confused at first as to which classes i would have to take for the spring semester because its such a change for me actually picking my own classes and schedule this time.

thank you Lancia for your time, it was greatly needed and appreciated ! Now im confident about my classes ive chosen for the spring semester.

Academic Advisement :)

On Thursday Melissa and I went to Lancia and she was great! She helped us with what our interest were when it came to our major and minor. From there she advised us on what classes we should take for spring 2010 and possibly the summer. I was so happy to meet with her because i had recently decided that maybe the mayor i wanted wasn’t right for me and she showed me the classes i would need to take and the major that was right for me! Now that i know the classes that i want to take, making my many schedules for registration got easier.  She also wrote down on my paper all the pre-requisites for the later classes so that i know what i NEED to take to gradually before applying to the Zicklin Business Program.

P.S. Now i know why the wait to see Lancia was 45 mins! But Luckily it wasnt that long for us…

Thanks Lancia!

I learned alot of first hand information about what an actual job recruiter looks for. They also taught me alot about first impressions and just how much they mean to the employer. After listening to this speech i am very interested in going out and giving a few of thier tips a shot to see just how well they do work. I will not be attending the job fair this year but when i do attened next year i have great hope that thier tips will help me land a great internship!

Freshman Reception

Back on September 17th, I attended the Freshman Reception workshop that was held at the Academic Advisement office. It was extremely packed with over hundreds of freshman trying to get in. It felt like forever while I was waiting on the line with my friend.  We somehow managed to get into the workshop, I don’t know how but we did. Lancia was one of the advisers there that presented. She talked to us about the requirements for graduating and getting into Zicklin program. Overall, I felt this workshop helped me learn what classes to take for Zicklin.

Resume Workshop: Career Exploration

On November 4th, i went to the resume writing workshop. This workshop was cool because the speaker was very informative and he gave really good tips on how to improve my current resume. He also got to know everyone in the room in order for him to find our strengths and weaknesses that we could put on our resume. He called on me alot as an example for his questions because i told him i work as a cashier and he would say what would be good skills that i could put under mytechniques.

This workshop was probably the most informative because resumes will be used for me to get a career in my future.

Resume Writing

Last week tuesday melissa and I went to te resume writing workshop done by the starr center and it was wnderful. I love how resourceful it was and it taught me alot. That week i was told that i needed to make a resume and after attending this workshop this difficult process became easy. The guy made sure that everybody participated and gave us a packet with so much information that i was shocked. He called on many of us students for example and answers. The packet had words that would be great to use on a resume, templates, different websites for information and more options that are available to us students. So far this workshop has been the best and taught me the most.

Student Life : Club Fair

On September 24th i attended the Club Fair that was held in the basement\gymnasium. It was quite an experience because it was really  crowded and it took forever just to get inside the gym. Once  i finally got inside i saw how any groups and interesting clubs that Baruch has to offer.  The 2 clubs that caught my attention was NABA,BSU and CSA. The people seemed so friendly and inviting for us to join their group.

It was alot of fun , to say the least because it showed how exciting being at school can be besides just going to class and ending my day like that.  This also allowed me to meet new people who shared the same interests as me. The dance performance where kids were freestyling to music was cool too !!

Arts at Baruch : Mercedes Matter

This workshop that i went to today was a woman showing us the many paintings that an artist drew for Baruch.Personally i thought the tour was okay because the woman was actually speaking about what the paitings were about and what the artist was probaby thiking as she was painting the piece.

She explanined the different techniques the artist used and the story that she was trying to capture. My favorite piece (although the tour guide didnt speak about ) was the painting of the skulls. The black and white piece showed alot of emotion too.
