career exploration–resume writing

this is one of the workshops that i wanted to attend the most because i want to have a more professional resume rather than one that looks silly for a college student. from this workshop, i leaned many useful skills to make my resume look good and i found out what to included and excluded in my resume. for example, the e-mail address you provide on your resume has to be appropriate, using your name is the best way of doing it, i think that’s why we all have a baruch e-mail. also, including all your working experiences and clubs can always make your resume look good. i really found this workshop helpful and interesting.

FRO Class

In one of the Freshman Seminar classes this semester we talked about the problems we had in our classes. To much of my surprise I was not the only one that felt like math was a hard class. Everyone in the class seemed to be struggling a bit in that class. Music was another class that everyone had the same opinion on. the Music teacher was boring and was not really teaching but rather telling us his life’s stories, while is why i ended up dropping that course. That Freshman Seminar class was a rare class that included interaction with other people. We had a discussing in little groups coming up with things to say about the classes that were assigned to each group. This class i believe was one of the more interesting ones. Hopefully i would not ever get teachers that i had this semester. The worst part about being a freshman was the blocks that you had to follow in the first semester and that we are the people that gets to register last.

Personal Enrichment Workshop-MEDIATING CONFLICT AND RESOLVING DISPUTES

This workshop was held on 11/12. It was a interesting workshop in terms of the content. We have a decent conversation and was reminded of the many ways that we can reduce stress and anxiety. We were also talking about problems solving skills. We talked about how we are unable to solve problems if we always leave it aside. someways to relief stress that was discussed was that we can do something active or just simple solve the problem that is causing stress and anxiety. They talked about the use of Baruch’s Office of the Ombuds which was basically a problem solving office.
This workshop was also not orderly. The room got really crowded and there were alot of people that couldn’t get in. It was at the time the last workshop for personal enrichment which was bad for the people who missed it.

Student Life Club Fair

Workshop was held on 9/24.
The club fair was pretty orderly consider the amount of people that was there. The clubs were set up nicely but was a bit messing because of the amount of clubs and the amount of people. I signed up for the Bowling and Billiards club and a few other clubs that i dont remember. i have been to only one of the Bowling and Billiards club event which was held at SoHo billiards which was there I normally played pool. it was free and it was for 6 hours. Overall the event was pretty interesting and was fun since it was only a month in to school.

Career Planning: Job Fair Prep

This workshop was held on 11/19.
This workshop was by far the best workshop that i have been to. The speakers were really funny and gave us good explanation of the DOs and DON’Ts during the job fairs. Something to do was to make sure that you looked nice and that u were presenting yourself well. Something not to do was to make sure that you dont say what u dont have and only say what you have. For example, dont say that you dont have experience but rather say that you are looking for experience in the field that you are applying for. This workshop was also very orderly. They got everyone sitting really quickly and got started. The workshop felt alot shorter then it was.

Last Post

This blog will be about a session from the freshman seminar.

I liked the topic where we talked about classes that we had in common. Everybody seemed to be on the same page with most of the classes. I remembered that many people had issues with Music, Political Science, English, and Calculus. Most people including me found Music and Political Science very boring. It was a good thing that I took AP Calculus during high school and got credits for it. Personally, I do not think Calculus is all too bad. Overall, I got a sense of what people felt about our professors.

Registering for Spring Semester Classes

Registering for my Spring semester classes was actually easier than I thought. It was nothing like those horror stories that I heard. I cleared all my stops earlier in the semester which made registering for classes a breeze. I got all my classes that I wanted and the professors seems alright from ratemyprofessor.com. I hope I will have an easier experience when registering for classes as a sophomore since freshmen gets last pick in choosing classes.

FRO Class

I remember one particular FRO class that was very interesting; it was “Adjusting to Baruch Culture”. Apparently, everyone has the same problems as I do for adjusting to the Baruch culture. I did not feel as alone and uncomfortable anymore. This class was helpful because I know how to solve the problems I had when I first started going to Baruch and now I have an easier transition.

Career Exploration

I attended the Resume Writing Workshop because I wanted to have a more college look to my high school resume. I learned a lot of helpful information that I can use towards my new improved resume. There were a lot of thing I did not not know what to include and exclude in my resume until I attended this workshop such as your GPA, college name, club activities, work experience, etc. This workshop was very helpful, I would recommend everyone to attend this workshop even if you have a resume already.

Your Life, Your Money

I must say this was an entertaining workshop. They had pizza, drinks and snacks. Before entering the room we were given a gift. The workshop wasn’t that boring. The food was good but it could of been shorter. I don’t recall everything in this workshop but they had some helpful advice for money handling. They even showed a video.
