Broadway show HAIR

omg. I LOVED HAIR. It was a unique experience. At first when my professor told me that the performers might come up to us and pull us in I was very scared. While I was sitting next Meera, one of the performers came up to me and Meera. He kissed her forehead and he kissed my head. THANK GOD I DID NOT LOOK UP WHEN CAME. It was scary. According to my other friends, after the performer kissed us my face looked like I wanted to kill him but I really didn’t. When he came over I was really scared and shocked. But the show was wonderful. I am really happy that I went to see the show. It was a really good experience. I loved it. However, I was really surprised when they got naked. I was shocked. For a second I thought they were wearing clothes that made it seem like they were naked. But omg they weren’t. They were absolutely naked!!!! =O

Academic Enrichment

I went to the SACC center workshop for academic enrichment. The person that was speaking on behalf of the SACC center was a math tutor. She told us what she does at the center and what kind of services the SACC provides. It was very helpful because most of the stuff I didnt even know. She also gave us tips on how to be successful test takers

Values, Pressure, and Choosing a Major

This workshop was a bit confusing.  There were too many things that the instructors were throwing at you and required you to ‘analyze’ yourself with the 15 minutes they give you.  I didn’t really enjoy this workshop.

Club Fair

I got the chance to browse through all the clubs and ask questions about what they’re about.  This helped me find my club that I’m still in today.

Gallery Tour

The gallery tour was extremely short compared to the other workshops.  It opened me to see what’s in the world of art.  I’m not a person who’s really into art, so this workshop gave me some experience.

Internship & Goal-Setting

This workshop informed me a lot about the STARR Career Development Center.  They gave me a packet about how to look for internships and what to do when I get one.  It was a really helpful workshop if you’re serious about looking for an internship.

Library Database

The library database definitely helped a lot.  They showed you how to use the database on the library website.  I had absolutely no idea how to use them before this workshop.  It was really helpful and it was only 30 minutes long.

Sonia Sotomayor

I went to a workshop about Sonia Sotomayor.  It was all about her childhood and her future.  It wasn’t a bad workshop, it informed me a lot about her life.

Hair

On Friday November 20th we went to see Hair with our LC.  I used this as my personal enrichment workshop.  The setting of this Broadway show is during the 1960’s.  It follows a bunch of hippie kids who are part of the counter culture revolution.  This play showed a struggle between doing what is right and what you believe in.  Though all of them are against the war the traumatic decision of burning hte draft card tears Claude, the main character, nearly in two.  This fits perfectly into personal enrichment.  Apart from it just simply being a broadway show, it shows history through song and dance and through what people had experienced.  It was first created during the 60’s and the idea’s and feelings of the people were easily potrayed and now that it’s back on broadway those characteristics still show.  This was a fun travel through American culture and history.

Impression Managment workshop

On Nov. 5 me and Rachel had attended the Impression Management workshop  that was held by STARR office.  For this workshop they had a very lively presenter.  Even if you didn’t want to be there you were still paying attention.  However, I felt that the workshop had ended up running too long.  I understand that making a first impression is very important but i felt that everything that we needed to know was covered in the first 45 minutes but the workshop continued for another 45 minutes after that.  The speaker told us many important factors that go into first impressions.  How you dress and carry yourself matter a lot.  All of our judgements of a person are made in the first couple of minutes and if this is an interview, those are the impressions that are going to stay and decide whether you get the job or not.  You can’t be shy but if your natural character is eccentric it’s best to hide that accept of yourself.  This workshop was more helpful than the other one’s that the STARR office was doing.
