Database

In this workshop, the librarian taught us how to use the Baruch searching site using the databases. He used an example using sports and steroids and told us if we wanted more information, it would be best to expand our vocabulary. This search site is better than using google because the site will show more  related information we need for class than google. The workshop gave good and useful information.

Freshmen Reception

The workshop did not come out well because the staff didn’t expect a thousand people to show up because they usually have less than 2oo students coming. We were grouped and separated into different rooms because there were too many people and stayed for ten minutes. The staff didn’t talk much, but they promised to leave more copies of the information we need in the lobby on the following week.  Overall, it wasn’t that bad.

Database

The database workshop at the library wasn’t very informative. Most of it is basic understanding of how to search through database for paper related documents. The librarian wasn’t very loud in the beginning cause she wasn’t using the microphone, so I didn’t really know what she was talking about. She show us how to use keywords to limit down the searches. She show us how we can tell if the document is useful or not base on how many times the key word is stated in the document.

Library Workshop

Yesterday I went to the Library Workshop. It was about a half hour, so it wasn’t that bad.  We talked about how to use the internet and which websites were bad, and which ones were good. We also talked about how to find reliable websites, so your information for papers are correct. I found that information to be really helpful because I think sometimes it’s difficult to figure out if the info I’m reading is right. So, I found this seminar pretty useful.

Database survival

I went to the library for the workshop on databases. It was really tiring and bothersome to be standing up the whole time, i felt like i couldnt pay attention the whole time while attending the workshop. The guy who showed us the databases on the projector was pretty helpful, sharing tips with us such as using bigger vocabulary and using different types of language. i thought it was quite funny when he refered to links as blue words 🙂 I’ll definitely be using the databases for my research paper in Writing.

Database Survival

So I went to the workshop on Thursday called “Database Survival at the Library.” I guess they weren’t expecting that many people because there was only two rows of chairs. I ended up standing for the whole workshop which was not pleasant. The librarian started introducing us to the Baruch databases. He showed us a couple of databases we can access with the example “sports and steroids.” He gave us tips on using the databases and I thought having a good vocabulary was a good one. Now that I know how to use the databases, it will be useful for research.

Databases

This past Thursday I went to a workshop, in the library, it was about databases. The speaker explained how to use them. I learned how to access them from a computer and how to search on them. He stressed that better vocabulary leads to better results. It was an extremely helpful workshop. I believe the knowledge I gained will come in handy when I need to find information for my researched English paper later in the semester.

Gallery Tour

I enjoyed the Gallery Tour. It was a small exhibit with beautiful photographs. A women took us to five specific ones and told us some information about each. It was not overcrowded because they only let around twenty students in at at time. Overall the workshop was pretty quick and interesting.

Freshman Reception

I found the Freshman Reception to be very unorganized and over crowded. The people who had set up the event only expected around 200 students and around 1000 showed up. They basically talked for 10 minutes and then signed our books.

Managing Relationships

On the 8th I attended the Managing Relationships workshop. It was about how to balance family obligations and school work, making new friends within all grade levels, and how to deal with new romantic relationships in college. I found the workshop to be informative and interesting. The speaker was even a phycologist who had a professional background in the discussed issues.
