Baruch Debates Diversity 9/14 – 12:30

The Nigerian speaker at the debate was not interesting at all. He mostly talked about the way things were in the school he use to teach at, Stony Brook and was very hard to follow. The panel of professors and students brought up some good points and made the debate much more interesting. Even though I disagreed with one of the women on the panel. One of the students on the panel brought up a good point, saying that even though our school is diverse, the same ethnic groups still flock to each other at places such as the cafeteria. It was an interesting debate and I was glad to see people have an interest in diversity.

How boring!! it seemed like the nigerian guy would never stop speaking, im pretty sure i evem saw the guy who invited him to speak getting impatient and sleepy. I know i wasnt the only one waiting for him to just finish his speech so i can fix myself a plate of sweets and grab some lemonade for the sugar rush when i realised it was impossible for me to keep myself awake on my own. The other speakers however made a few interesting points, and i liked how caring and sympathetic the african american woman was when she told her story about the asian girl who was rejected from class for her lack of english. Its attitudes like those that i like to see from teachers, genuine care for the students. Other than that, the food was good.
