Diversity Debate

Community-Global Awareness

I attended this workshop because it was a requirement for my English class. I didn’t know much about it before-hand but I thought it was a potentially interesting topic. However, I was disappointed when the the majority of the program was a speaker from StonyBrook who was very monotone and spoke mostly about his work elsewhere. I was hoping he would speak more about topics pertinent to Baruch and its diversity. It did get more interesting as the panel was able to make brief and interesting points that were all very different. A speaker from the audience brought up an interesting point which was that we should account for all the different types of diversity and not just that of race. The debate was thought provoking, however the speaker could have spoke for less time and we should have spent more time on trying to come up with a plan regarding the diversity at Baruch. I believe this is more important to us students.
