Ethics Workshop

I found this workshop to be very interesting. It was a very interactive workshop that allowed us to interact with our friends and peers and see what everyones opinions were on certain situations (even if some weren’t the most truthful). I especially liked when the instructor read us situations and everyone had to move right or left according to what you would do. I also learned that even if you use quotes but you cite an author the wrong way it is still considered plagarism.

Math

I find math at Baruch to be much harder than any math i have previously taken. However, it seems the more that time goes on the easier it gets for me. My biggest complaint is probably the rate at which my professor teaches the class. It seems like he is always in a rush to cover the topic and cares more about finishing quickly than actually understanding the material. I know that he has a schedual with a lot of material in a short amount of time but I think he can at least take the time to answer questions when asked in class. As for his grading methods I happen to like it very much. He drops the lowest test and quize which is a big help when you have that one bad grade that pulls down your whole average.

the gallery

I was still able to view beautiful abstract works of art from one wonderful artist. Mercedes Matter was very into portraying abstract art in various ways. We saw how she painted items at age 15 and also later in her life. In many of her paintings she used colors shapes, and fruits. We were asked by our guide to locate some of the fruits she painted such as, apples pears, and avocados. After we got to her midlife paintings we noticed how she was very into paintings that had triangles in them. We noticed them everywhere on her paintings and how they helped balance and “support” her art. I was told by the tour guide that these paintings do not all belong to Baruch College. As a matter of fact many owners of these paintings allow Baruch’s Art Gallery to have them, for many different reasons. Baruch though uses them for education purposes. I must say that for my last required workshop, it was quite interesting and i definitely recommend every classmate of mine to check out the art gallery here at Baruch College

carrer planning

The presenter was the coordinator for Internships at Baruch College and she provided students with important information about internship opportunities along with an Undergraduate Internship Manual from the Career Development Center. Some topics discussed included the types of internships, setting specific learning objectives, internship opportunities and the Starr Career Development website. The main idea of this workshop was to acknowledge that the main priority is to familiarize yourself and adapt to the college environment while maintaining a competitive grade point average as a freshman before applying to an internship. I personally thought this workshop was incredibility informative and answered many of my anticipated questions I had in mind as a college freshman. I look forward to future workshops in career exploration such as the resume writing and interviewing workshop in the upcoming weeks. I recommend this workshop to other students because it was very helpful and the valuable information I gained from the workshop will take me one step closer to becoming successful here at Baruch College.

Impression Management

I attended the Impression Management workshop on Thursday, October 15 during my free period at 12:30. This is a very useful class because it teaches students about good appearances and impressions that are needed at school, work, interviews, and many other places. I think this class i very important but is more useful for student who are closer to graduation because it mainly focuses on interviews and career atmospheres.

Club Fair

This workshop was held in the gym during club hours. There was a huge crowd with a DJ and lots of table set up each representing a different club at Baruch. This was a very enjoyable workshop for me because I was able to walk around and hang out with my friends. I also met new students at Baruch and joined the Italian club along with Oleh and another student that I am friends with. I am glade that Baruch organizes something like this because if they didn’t i would have never known about so many of the diverse events that go on at my school.

Bearcat Workshop

Iattended the Bearcat Workshop which was held on October 20th  from 1:30-2:00pm in the library. A few hours before this workshop my English professor had us attend a very similar class. Even though this was the case this workshop was still very helpful because it showed me alternative search engines and explained how to use the databases for any research I needed to do for class.

Manager relationship

manage relationships. We discussed how to keep and manage relationships and I also made new acquaintances because we had to talk to other people in the room. At first I was quite shy because I had to break out of my comfort zone to talk to people I’ve never met before and learn more about them. The experience was great and besides learning how to keep personal relationships, we discussed professional relationships and where to make connections so that we can build out networks. I would definitely recommend this workshop to other people because it gives us information which are vital especially in the business field.

Academic Students Fair

This event informed me of the different areas of student life. I waent to the center for academic advisment and they told me about majors and minors. I also looked at the athletics department with my friends. Other departments in this fair included financial aid, testing & evaluation, and writing center.
