Using and evaluating the web for research – workshop

This workshop was held in the library on Tuesday, October 20th at 12:30 PM.  The workshop was listed under “Academic Enrichment”, but I really didn’t go in expecting to be any more “rich” when I came out of it; it was only a short hour, one I could spare during my break after Art History class with enough time left for me to grab a snack, so that was a great (and possibly only) motivation to go.

But contrary to my initial impression, I actually came out (not really…I stayed in the library for another hour after) a bit more “enriched”; it turns out that Google-ing a couple of words, clicking the Wikipedia link and copying it into a bibliography isn’t the only way to do research.

But of course, it wasn’t exactly all smooth and fun.  The “presenter” wasn’t very articulate, which produced some pretty terrible (but mostly boring) effects when combined with an enormous library housing hundreds of people.  And it didn’t really help that I was standing the furthest away from the presentation.

But the things I did catch were actually quite interesting, a lot of which I did not know.  So an hour well spent.

One Response to Using and evaluating the web for research – workshop

I remember seeing you there and you were quit far from the front. That’s actually me being nice you were pretty much directly in the back.

You should definitely blog more often, I had fun reading your blog post and it kept me interested. I do however want to know what are some of the techniques that you picked up from he workshop. If just googling and then citing wikipedia is not the way to go, how did the presenter state that you are supposed to do your research?
