Workshop about using the internet for research purposes

I thought this workshop was really simple and straight forward, the lecturer let us know the in and outs of researching with the web for example using google and maximizing its efficiency.  The lecturer taught us things like using quotations and changing the way you type in the search engine to help get more out of what we search on these particular engines.  The points he made were quite simple, he said that we should use words that have relevance to what we researching and words like the and a are not really necessary when it comes to typing it in.  He mentioned that there are millions of pages that show up on google when you type something in thus emphasizing the importance of typing in the right combination of words in the search engine.   He expressed these points by actually typing in google.com on the overhead projector and looking up random topics as examples.  I thought that this workshop was informative and i will take what i learned with me anytime i research something for school.

  1. I took this workshop today and I actually learned a lot from it. It was really helpful that the lecturer took into a count that sometimes students are that comfortable with databases and taught us how to use Google to the best of it’s capabilities. I really liked how she told us about ways to use citation aids in our research, all this time I thought it was some sort of cheating! She also told us about RefWorks which really sounds like it will help a lot during our English term paper! All in all, a surprisingly useful workshop!

I’m glad you were able to take away something from the workshop. Throughout your experience at Baruch you will have to do many research papers. I believe you will have to do one this year maybe even two all depending if you don’t get all of your research projects accomplished for psychology class.

However I’m sure you will have to do a paper for Philosophy, it’s always good to have quoted information within your papers, for it shows that the topics that you are presenting have merit. So learning the proper way of finding out this information is essential.
