When I went to the Mercedes Matter gallery for the Arts at Baruch workshop, I was guided with a group of other students on a tour of Mercede’s artwork. The guide stopped at each section of the galleryand told us about the work, how far her style was developed, and at what point in her life she had painted the paintings. We went into cubism and how her style became more abstract as she got older. She began to create her own style of art which was very new for the time period she had lived in. She went from surrealism to very intricate abstract work as her style progressed, and her paintings became more enigmatic. I learned a bit about a new artist that I had not known about before and overall, it was a very enjoyable experience.
