I attended the “Mercedes Matter” art tour on December 1st.
I would have to say that it was everything I thought it was going to be.
The tour wasn’t necessarily boring, since I kept myself preoccupied by noting how typical the guide was; she was a vanilla art “interpretor”, or someone who looks at every single detail of a piece and tries to interpret it as some sort of movement or another. I actually find this approach to art reproachable, but thats a whole other article.
The subject was definitely boring, and it didn’t really help that her voice was on one octave at best.
Also, the majority of the paintings were focused on fruits on top of tables.
Time not really well spent. But at least it was short (15 minutes).
To me this Mercedes Matter gallery tour was like a touring a garage…it was so small and hot and I have NO idea who this Mercedes woman was, but I’m pretty sure I care less now than I did before I even heard of her. Baruch is such a heavy business school, you would think they would put more emphasis on anything art because it’s so rare. I think that Baruch should be aware of how many students found this gallery tour as such an insufferable experience in hopes of improving their arts workshops for the future.
