Arts at Baruch – Mercedes Matter, a retrospective

This was a really short workshop, but I had to wait in line for a really long time to get inside the gallery. Once inside, there was a tour of the entire gallery. The woman leading the tour only discussed the ‘popular’ pieces and gave an analysis of her own. The paintings made no sense to me. I’m not an arts kind of person, and I don’t like to analyze art; sometimes a painter just paints. When we try to break down every single part of the painting, “it loses its soul”. In any case, Mercedes had some decent paintings
